Hey UG'ers .... ive finally got the money to mod/upgrade my Ibanez RG350EX. Although Ive came to an aesthetical dilemma. Which material should I use for my pickguard ?

Ive narrowed it down to three choices ...

Mirror plate (ala Steve Vai) Similiar to this > Mirror Plate Example

or

Diamondplate/Metal > Diamond plate RG scratchplate & Example of black strat style guitar with dp scratchplate

or

Just plain black with white/silver binding > Example

mirror finish scratchplates are extremely annoying with stage lighting.
you end up blinding random people in the audience.
it will piss some of them off.

Just plain black looks the classiest I think.

I'd go for the mirror though if I didn't mind fingerprint smudges

That is something I have considered actually. Another thing I have been thinking about too is expectation. Im not the best guitarist in the world obviously, but I like to think of myself as quite competent in theory, technique and playing ability. Do you think having a fancy mirror plate would lead to the expectation of me being a Vai like shredder lol Or would something like the diamondplate or stock black make me seem like a riff merchant

Personally the mirror plate is becoming more appealing ... but surely it must be a bugger to keep clean lol
