What amp can give me a really nice shred tone, similair to Jason Becker's or Marty Friedmans. My budget is 400-1000 USD.

1980s Ibanez RG470
Epiphone G400
Peavey Vypyr 30
Vox DA5
Vox Cybaby Wah
Monster Cables
and Red Jazz IIIs

Maybe a JSX? It was made for Satch so I would think you'd get a nice shred tone from it. I've like them when I've been bothered to plug into one.

Peavey XXX. But, the head alone is over $1000...so...

Most good amps that shredders and metal players use are tube half stacks. So you'll end up spending over $1000 for a good one. I'm a shredder and I use just a cheap 100 watt Fender FM212R amp. I get a great tone outta it, even if it's not tube. You can get a great tone outta almost any amp as long as you know how to tweak it, given the amp has more than one distortion setting.

^Go used, or get an ultra, I've seen ultra stacks go for 500 and 600 dollars on CL.

This is where Imgooley steps in a pwns us with CL domination.

A JSX would be good, or a Randall. Maybe get a Malmsteen OD pedal, and you should be set.

Lol line 6 spider valve

Actually, they're not a bad recommendation if you don't mind spending the time EQuing it.

If you can dial out some of the mush to the tone it might be a pretty good candidate.

Middle or high end Laneys perhaps such as the VH100R or GH100L?

Is the $1000 for a cabinet as well, or can you splash out some more for a Vader or an Avatar cab in addition to a nice head?

Oh, in before the "He doesn't need a half stack get a combo!!!11111oneone" brigade.

Since imgooley isn't showing, I'll do his job to the best of my ability. I have no idea where in Virginia you are, so I'll post listings for Richmond and DC.

http://richmond.craigslist.org/msg/857738979.html You'd probably need an OD to boost this baby, but the clean is beautiful if you like to shred clean.

http://richmond.craigslist.org/msg/855349577.html head and http://richmond.craigslist.org/msg/855491112.html cab.

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/msg/857788535.html This would definitely require an OD and probably a distortion pedal also, but since it's so damn cheap you could easily afford one. They're great lil amps too.

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/msg/857322402.html This head could also be an option with the JCM cab I mentioned earlier.

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/mld/msg/857182246.html Make that another head. Since this is an EVH head, I'm assuming it would be good for shred type stuff.

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/msg/856734215.html This looks like a pretty sweet stack deal to me.

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/msg/856351755.html I would look at all of these, but especially the Rivera.

spider valve is actualy a GOOD amp really tube-ish at 4 or more volume at the master, so... check it out, and the 5150 is a freaking god of gain but cleans...... so... try the spider valve man , its worth

Agreed. The Spider Valves are pretty decent amps, and a damn sight better than the SS ones.
