Yeah, it's the root, 3rd, and 5th of a chord. You're on a good site to learn em, there are a ton of lessons on the main U-G site.

But like justin said, just take that shape and move it around. That's a powerchord. It's the same for the bottom 3 strings, just move that shape around your fretboard.

There's no third. It's just 1 and 5.
