Yeah, me too. Straight from the factory.
About 3 months later, it broke and I had to make a warranty claim.
Moral of the story? Hold onto your receipt. You never know with B-52.

Aside from the reliability issues, they are amazing amps. I loved that amp.

Here's mine

A couple of clips in my profile...
http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/sabbathu/

The two clips with AT100 are the only ones using the B52. All other clips are from a ss yamaha.

I dig my B52. I've gigged with it 3 times since I bought it a month ago. I swear if it ever breaks I'll report it here, but for now, its all good.

I bought mine AT112 in June...Its now a 70lb brick in my garage! I'll ship it to the tech once I have money for shipping. I loved it when it worked. This thread is starting to look like a B-52 Real Stories show or something.

Indeed they do. I've been considering B-52 once I get a job for a while but all the ones at my local GC have microphonic tubes from here til next Tuesday so I can't try them out. How would they do for a metalcore/hardcore mix say a cross between The Devil Wears Prada/As I Lay Dying?

To get my ideal tone for thick sludgy, yet articulate sounding rythym I set Gain 1 as follows....

Gain 10 (some of you might think it kills the tone but as long as you have Volume 1 below 6, its all good - more on that later).

Bass 6

Middle 8 (this is key)

Trebble 5 1/2

NO CONTOUR! OFF!!!

Volume 5 (I used to crank this knob and keep the Master low, and it sounded good for bedroom but too mushy live with a full drum kit. Keep it at 5 and you will be able to crank those master tubes higher)

Master 5-6 (LIVE)
Master 2 (Bedroom)

I use Gain 2 as a lead boost, basically by setting Gain 2 Volume at 6 and stomping on the footswitch when I need it.
The other guitarist in my band has a Dimebag Krankenstein and he refuses to put his mids above 2. He scoops the hell out of his tone and it sounds great, but the minute we start rocking he gets lost in the mix and my amp shines. Basically its settings. His amp may be twice as expensive but mine sounds better.

hell ya dude, get a AT and crank it. perfect for devil wears prada/ as i lay dying. but if you cant turn it up very loud get a tubescreamer or some other overdrive and boost the front end of that mother.

well i also use a bad monkey overdrive pedal, which goes in the front. but the eq goes in the back.

and if you're gonna get a b-52, i suggest getting a noise gate. it gets pretty noisy past 3ish.

Sounds good. It's been a long time since GC has had a decent one with non-micro phonic tubes in so I can't really remember the sound except it had more than enough gain IMO. What's its voicing like? Does it have that flabby loose bottom end a Recto does? I so despise the Recto bottom end to be honest.

Gorgeous. Why don't you change the faceplate on the head?

o snap! good idea. any suggestions?
i was seriously thinking about re=tolexing it with some kind of crazy neon tolex or something to that extent, but then i realized how much work that would be and that i have absolutely zero experience in that field...

well , it does have a little bit of "sag" to the bottom end, but IMO no where near as much as a mesa recto. running an OD in front really tightens that baby up.
just check one out for yourself, maybe a different GC or other music store or someone selling a used one.

Wanna know why we don't always show ourselves?

Because we don't like giving the secret away. B-52 makes some pretty decent amps for a nice price that create good solid tone.

Thats all. I've never seen a single thread so far about a users b-52 failing on them.

I have a b52 at212 and love it. Receltly it tragicaly fell off the top of my eganter 2x12 and is currently in the shop. The tech can not find whats wrong. My Gain 1 does not put out any gain and that is the gain i use =/. hopefully this will be resolved soon but i love these amps. Never played a better amp.

Yeah, I'm looking to get rid of my AT412 cabinet. That thing is bulky and too heavy and I move it at least twice a week between rehearsal, home, and gigs. An Avatar 212 sounds like the perfect cab for my needs.
