VK isn't exactly a 'pro' amp, but I like mine alot.

None of those Marshalls are particularly great either, although a bunch of 'pros' use them.

Budget? I don't think the JVM, JCM, DSL and the VK are in the same league...

I don't really dig the DSL 401, I'd say you might want to stay away from that. I haven't played the others, though, so no useful recommendations shall issue from my keyboard.

Sorry, useless post.

Orange rocker 30 might do you.
but if you're not in the league to buy one I wouldn't worry about it.

The rocker is 15 watts better. (JK) Seriously - it's a great amp, they both are. But for $1000 you should be able to score something better used, even in the UK. I'll let Dave_MC and S. Seagull post you some better options on your side of the pond.

Don't wait till you're "pro" to buy a decent amp.
Buy one whenever you want one!
But it seems so far that Orange is the way to go.
but...Steven Seagull and Dave_MC will help you out more.

If you really have $1000 to spend I wouldn't recommend the VK. You could get a better amp. For instance, a Peavey XXX/Ultra combo.

However if you're on a tight budget, a Valveking is really hard to beat.
