Budget: $500-$750

New or Used: Used if I can get a better amp for a good deal

Current Amp: Marshall DSL 401 - I would like a better clean tone (vintage sounding), and I can't seem to get a good overdrive for blues.

Genres: Classic Rock, Blues, Hard Rock (some), Funk, Good CLEAN Tone is important!

Major Influences: John Mayer, John Frusciante, Jimi Hendrix
(I want to be able to achieve their sounds as best as my budget will allow)

Pedals: None at the moment but willing to buy. Reccomendations appreciated...

Uses: Bedroom practice, band, and occasional gigging.

I will most likely buy from ebay. I have tested out the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and Deville and I love the cleans on them. I even like the overdrive for some hendrix songs (don't kill me). Everyone says the overdrive on these amps is weak and useless. Would I be able to tackle my genres listed above using these amps + pedals? Any other Fender amps around my price range that would be better (Super Reverb, Bassman, blah blah etc.)?

If not, I have also been looking at the Vox AC30. It's a little out of my price range, but if it would be a much better option, I'd save up for it if I had to. I haven't ever played a Traynor, but I hear good things about them. I won't buy one if I can't try it first, unless the reccomendations are overwhelming.

Lemme know, thanks!

I contacted the AC30 listing yesterday and haven't gotten a response yet, understandably. I'm kind of anxious, is there a way to tell if the item is still available?

No. The fact that it's still there either means that its still for sale or that he's irresponsible and didn't remove the listing if he sold it.

http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/msg/823143135.html Blues Deville for $500.

http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/msg/806361771.html Vox AC30 $600 - great amp for what you play. Get's my "best of show" vote here if it isn't sold. It's superior to the Blues Deville or the Traynors. You should try this, it's an incredible amp.

http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/msg/855850821.html Vintage Fender Bassman Head, would need a 2x12 cab but the head is a good deal at $440. Great deal actually.

http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/msg/843768585.html Vintage Super Reverb, asking $750.

These amps would need a good od to drive them. I only found one Traynor on the site, and it was out of budget. But call some local shops and see if they have any. SamAsh and GC are the usual suspects, but try Music Go Round if there is one near you.

From you last amp thread a couple days ago. Que the "mexican hat dance". theoretic - how ironic! LOL
