May seem a little politically incorrect, but bare with me.

If people with down-syndrome are on forums, would they talk like normal people? Considering they have a longer amount of time to respond?

Note:This thread was inspired by valientleaps threads last night and his slightly down appearance.

my 20 year old cousin has down syndrome and he is always on the computer. he acts pretty mature though, not 5-10 years old at least. so im guessing yeah, he could probably respond normally

I'd imagine they would sound like any other person, however just younger than what they actually are.

I doubt it, I saw a report on a man who has Downs Syndrome who wrote a book about American history. It was pretty much at a 2nd or 3rd graders level, by that I mean not the writing but that the content would probably be like 2nd or 3rd grade reading level.

Not all downs sufferers have full blown downs, a percentage of their cells may be downs (trisomy 21) and a percentage normal, so they have reduced downs phenotype, i.e. taller than most downs people, more normal facial appearance with maybe slight eye and nose phenotype and smaller ears and lower than average intelligence but not quite as child-like as full blown downs sufferers.

Isn't the difference between a downs syndrome case and a non-downs case, literally that ONE chromosome being altered?

Trisomy 21, they have 3 copies of chromosome 21 in their cells, but some are mosaic, some cells trisomy 21, others normal.

The chromosome itself isn't altered, there're just too many of them.

edited because it looked like I was saying you had downs

Did you know the odds of a Vault-Tec shelter failing are 1,763,497 to 1?

So imagine life in a Vault-Tec Vault. Not just a future.
A brighter future... underground.
