The title is partially related.

In this thread, I would like some recommendations or songs you actually listen to in this kind of situation. The situation is one of loneliness. You're missing someone. You feel alone. You feel nostalgic. Whatever the case, post songs you feel communicate this message, or songs you listen to when you feel this way.

I am personally not particularly missing anybody, but am lonely, and this is what I am currently listening to (There are MANY more, but these are just offhand)

(Also, "Wish You Were Here" is obligatory. You can post it, but we all know it's pretty and relevant to the subject matter)

Storm- Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Remember Me As A time of Day- Explosions in the Sky
Lost Symphony- God Is An Astronaut
Ministry of Lost Souls- Dream Theater
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence- Dream Theater
Arriving Somewhere, but Not Here- Porcupine Tree
How is your life today?- Porcupine Tree
Poor Man's Memories- Explosions in the Sky
If I Could Fly- Joe Satriani
Blood and Tears- Steve Vai
Since I've Been Loving You- Led Zeppelin
I'm Jim Morrison I'm Dead- Mogwai
Straumuns- Sigur Rus
All Is Vanity- Spock's Beard

And many others.

Your turn, /forum/forumdisplay.php?f=11/

For some reason Leave Out all the Rest by Linkin Park totally fits in with a situation I'm in now.

I am going to list the albums, because that is mainly what I listen to.

Unplugged - Eric Clapton

Blues - Jimi Hendrix (the cover of Once I had a Woman is particularly chilling)

Martin Scorses Presents the Blues - Jimi Hendrix

Sea Change - Beck

Pantera - Cemetery gates

Yes.

Depends on what kind of mood you're feeling. If it's a sad loneliness, try some mellow Tupac. If you're angry 'I'm not taking anymore shit' lonely, Omerta by Lamb of God.

Good thread, OP.

There is only song for that occasion:

Black Sabbath - Lonely is the Word.

And it's just icing on the cake that it comes with the most emotional guitar solo mankind has seen.

I really like EITS but can't stand the pretentious titles.

Artist - Song (Album)

Porcupine Tree - Lazarus (Deadwing)
My Bloody Valentine - When You Sleep (Loveless)
Michael Jackson - You Are Not Alone (HIStory)
Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight, Tonight (Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness)
Sigur Ros - Staralfur (Agaetis Byurjin)
Senses Fail - Bite to Break Skin (Let it Enfold You)

They probably don't all fit exactly the criteria, but all of them are close to it.

I find the titles rather poetic, but the names bare no real significance on the song.

Thats a good song (thread title).

I listen to alot of Matthew Good, or Sigur Ros when I'm in the same situation you are.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Li9oeTSrjvc

I'm listening to Matt Good right now!

Apart from him i mainly listen to Flaw, Staind, Nirvana, sometimes even Linkin Park, and No Surprises and Fitter Happier off Ok Computer (Radiohead). This is mostly when i'm in my depressive state, not neccessarily lonely or missing someone.

Also

Mad World - Gary Jules
Millencollin - The Ballad
9 Crimes - Damien Rice

Oh and sometimes Portishead too...

And Hurt.

There's a lot more that don't immediately come to mind, but it's late and i'm going to bed....
