Name: Daniel Michael Andriano
DOB: June 27, 1977
Place of Birth: Elgin, Illinois

Dan's early years

Dan took up guitar at the age of 11, playing from tab books of bands the likes of Led Zeppelin, Metallica and Judas Priest. At the age of 13 he started going to punk rock shows, which broadened his imagination for the type of music he'd come to play.Dan cites his influences as Jimmy Page, Billie Joe Armstrong and Johnny Marr to name a few. Dan soon tried his hand at writing his own material. He says alot of his material is written based on personal experiences throughout his life. Dan picked up bass shortly after this.

Before Alkaline Trio

Before 1997 Dan had played with many bands, the two most notable being the ska-punk band Slapstick, which he played bass in, and the band Tuesday for which he was bassist and co-vocalist. Dan cites is lisp as the contributing factor to his unusual vocal style.

The Alkaline Years

In 1997 Alkaline Trio's original bassist Rob Doran left the band, and frontman Matt Skiba offered him the position based on his previous bands performances.

They realeased an EP before splitting writting and vocal duties between Skiba and Andriano. Thus far Alkaline Trio have released 6 Studio albums on which Dan can be heard.

Goddamnit
Maybe Ill Catch Fire
From Here to Infirmary
Good Mourning
Crimson
Agony and Irony

Dan is also known for contributing alongside other artists, for example his collaboration with "The Falcon" on their 2004 album, Ben Weasel on "These Ones are Bitter" and alongside Matt Skiba on New Found Glory's "Forget My Name"

Gear

Dan has used a variety of basses both on tour and in the studio but is main basses are Fender Precision and Jazz Basses throughout his career. He is also well known for a signature green Jazz Bass made by GPC. On Dan's latest album Agony and Irony, he recorded with a Fender '62 Reissue Precision bass due to its "tone and comfort".

Dan's amp setup is consistent on and off stage, usually favouting an Ampeg SVT-3 head and Ampeg 8x10 cab. Although the recording of Agony and Irony was done through a 1970's Marshall Major.

During acoustic sessions he uses a Gibson Hummingbird, of which matt skiba is "not sure what year it is, but its alot of money"

Thanks all for reading, was a little on the short side haha. Ill let TheFitz decide if he approves himself!

I approve, but I'll let the humanity do all the heavy lifting and picture posting .

So, anarkee, Ben, when are you going to put your heads together and do a BPOTM on yours truly?

I wouldn't call what we have here on the Bass Forum a mentality. It's more like the sharing part of an AA meeting.

Thank you. Dan Andriano was the reason I first picked up a bass. I've seen Alkaline Trio about eleven times and met the man a few times... its a humbling experience.

I admire Dan as creative bass is something which is not often seen in the punk/pop-punk genre. Slapstick is awesome also.
If music was the food of love I'd be a fat romantic slob.

Alkaline Trio has been one of my favourite bands for years. Dan's bass lines are some of the catchiest and most melodic bass lines i've ever heard which is important in a 3 piece. Cool to see a piece on him.
-Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass
-Tech 21 Sansamp RBI
-Mesa Powerhouse 212
-Fender Bassman 410
-Tons of other bass/guitar gear
