what are some bands that use a lot of guitar effects and have unique vocals? bands like rage against the machine and the mars volta
#4
Primus, Zappa, Faith No More, Coheed and Cambria (I hate them it's just that they get compared to TMV a lot).
Oct. 20th, 2009: New guitar AND front row for Mars Volta.

I met Sonic Youth on June 30th, and Mars Volta on Oct 20th.

I can't stand the Blood Brothers!

Try Incubus, Karnivool, Dead Letter Circus on for size. There are many more but I am a little lost for thoughts right now.

Also, I hate to self-promote, but my music is influenced by all those bands you mentioned plus all the ones I did.

RATM are unique name three bands that rapped and used metal guitars before them.

Yep. No one has really combined metal and hip-hop as much as they did. Also try:

John Frusciante
Ataxia
CKY
Placebo (vocals in particular)

Faith No More maybe.

Oh, right. Sadly I'm not as familiar with them as I am with RATM.

I think its pretty obvious rage is the best rap/metal band.

They blow everyone else away, even though their whole "**** the system" shit gets old when zack rants about it every single song

im not too big on faith no more, or mike patton for that matter.

Have you guys listened to umprey's mcgee? cheak out the thread on them if you want to hear a cool new band

That may be true with Pablo Honey and some aspects of The Bends, but OK Computer was much different than the rest of the Britpop scene when it was first released, and don't even get me started on Kid A and beyond. Now there's a ton of bands influenced by Radiohead who are very talented in their own right.

EDIT: And of course TMV is very unique too.

Aren't they a jam band?

If so, I dislike jam bands.

Can you give me a good reason what makes them good?

Curious, here.

Yeah, they kinda took britpop and ****ed it up the ass. Kid A is the best album of 2000 and Radiohead's best album alltogether. Ok Computer comes in second. Both amazing albums.

Couldn't name 3, but then again I'm not much of a rap-metal kind of guy. That doesn't mean RATM were the first to do so though, check out Urban Dance Squad:

What happened to "pretty mediocre"?

On topic:
The Appleseed Cast (only their ambient-ish stuff)
Abe Vigoda
Animal Collective
Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti
At the Drive-In

A's ftw.

Ok, I like Calexico now. Maybe I was just trying to keep you from listening to them.

Speaking of mediocre, I see you listed Animal Collective.
