ill most likely be running through my GT-8 with the 4 cable method.

Alright. Look at Bugera 333XL combos. Based on Peavey XXX, which is a very versatile amp.

the randall rg50tc's an amazing amp in that price range for metal, and other styles as well, a very versatile amplifier.

if you're going to be playing a 50 - 75 watt tube amp, you don't need mics. like...ever. unless you're playing the superdome, you don't realize how loud they are. Of corse, mic them so the mix sounds better anyways.

But, seriously consider looking at used stuff, try and convince your parents, use craigslist and that way you can go and try out the stuff before you buy it because it's all local.

Actually, the 333XL is based ont the Peave JSX, the 333 is based on the Peavey XXX.
But they are right, get a Bugera.
#21
My bad...but the JSX is simply a slightly modified and revoiced version of the XXX.

Parents understand the value of money in most cases. Please talk to them - show them this thread. Once you open a budget like you have and look used a lot of better amps come into play.

If that isn't going to happen then the Bugeras and RG50tc should be checked out.
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, then it hit me.

OK, fair enough. Just try them out. Try them at low volumes, then crank them a bit. It'll be pretty obvious which one you like better (i hope). If not, then you're in a good place either way (unless you hate them both).

The best thing I can tell you is if you aren't blown away by it continue your search. Check for unwanted noise, etc, make sure everything works. Test it quiet and loud, with your guitar. Good luck.

Edit - theo you have fast fingers again today...

50 wats should be enough (all tube) if you're gonna gig
30 wats is probably good enough for gigging too...dunno...I've only played 1 tube amp ever, my Crate V-50.
I wouldn't go for anything under 75 wats SS...just cause most SS amps I've heard when they're like 40-50 wat amps at like 8.5/9 they sound pretty crappy...unless you get a really good SS..

Ok I need to say something to idiots who keep saying this.

WRONG.

You *WILL* mic up, ESPECIALLY in a venue like that. It's the small venues you WOULDN'T need a mic. You're obviously not versed in live sound, are you familiar with a side filler? Yeah it doesn't matter how loud your amp or walls of amps are. If it's 170dB in the front row, and killing people instantly. But a pleasant 90dB in the rear/back, I have a feeling you're going to have a bad show.

I hate idiots like you that say things like that. You would NEVER turn an amp up that high, the PA will always carry you ESPECIALLY when the venues get bigger and bigger.

Lunacy, sheer lunacy. He's not in that idiot box. Notice he said "need", not use. He said you'd mic it up to the PA. He never suggested that you not do that.

If you're going to correct people strongly, be sure you're 100% right. (Trust me on that.)

50w tube is plenty for gigs. It will be mic'ed in all but the smallest venues, and probably even there.
