I have a Crate Palomino and a Jackson Dinky with a Ibanez TS-9 overdrive. I'm trying to get a thicker sustain/distortion but i cant achieve this without pushing my gain pretty far. I've tried lessening the gain and raising the volume but this gives me more of a light overdrive sound....

How do i get a smoother, fuller distortion without pushing my gain so much and making everything so fizzy and grainy?

different pickup settings, also turn down gain and use a steel pick. It actually adds to the distortion.
