Yeah title says it all.

Id say Kelly Slater. 9 world titles. 17 years in the competition... 3 of which he was semi retired...so couldnt win a title.

so pit, who do you think is the greatest sportsman?
If looks coud really kill,

Ali, Joe Louis, Willie Mays, Wilt Chamberlain, Gordie Howe. I can't pick just one.

And, in today's generation, Shaun White. He's doing things across sports that nobody thought was possible (i.e., if you were skilled at snowboarding, you're not supposed to be skilled at skateboarding)

Edit: Dammit

Doubly Edit: With honorable mention to bill Russell, you can't argue with 11 Championship rings
They credited us with the birth of that sort of heavy metal thing. Well, if that's the case, there should be an immediate abortion.

wayne gretzky. 4 championships (i think) and he holds the assist, goals and points record in season and career areas. also if he never scored a goal ever, he would still lead in points (goals + assist)

he'd be a contender for sure.

theres no way to determine a number one of all time though, no way to evenly and fairly compare all the athletes.

Jim Brown.
He dominated as a running back in football, he played lacrosse and was crazy good at that too, he would have been drafted for baseball if he had not chosen to play football professionally, and he also rocked basketball. He was also a track star. He may be the best athlete the world has ever seen.

Edit: here's an excerpt from his wiki page
He averaged 6.2 yards in running for 986 yards -- third most in the country despite Syracuse playing only eight games -- and scored 14 touchdowns. In the regular-season finale, a 61-7 rout of Colgate, he rushed for 197 yards, scored six touchdowns and kicked seven extra points for 43 points. Then in the Cotton Bowl, he rushed for 132 yards, scored three touchdowns and kicked three extra points.
