I was wondering if The Pit could help me find out who really invented two handed tapping. So whoever finds me proof of the earliest two handed tapping in a song will become my new god.

F.Y.I It wasn't E.V.H.

Ace Frehley

there are video's on youtube of him 2 hand tapping since the 1970's, just google his solo's from the 70's

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7UmAoZZIX4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsvtJ2npPiA

or just check out his early solo's for the song shock me

from wikipedia: Tapping was also used by Ace Frehley as early as 1975, for his live solo at the end of the song "She" during Kiss's performance on the Midnight Special. The technique would remain a part of Frehley's solos from 1977 through the Kiss reunion during "Shock Me".

From chapman stick page...
(In comparison, a typically held guitar's fretboard is more or less horizontal.)

how many guitars really play horizontally? I never do closer to 30 degree angle.

isn't a piano really just taping strings? So really although you don't really touch the strings with your hand a piano is just two hand taping.

So the winner would be the first person to invent a piano.

call it what you want still a piano!

They are two clearly distinct instruments.
A piano strikes strings while a harpsichord plucks them.
The harpsichord came first.
Then the piano was invented later because the harpsichord had no control over dynamics, it was the same volume, all the time.

EVH didn't invent it, but he revolutionized it....which IMO is better, so EVH wins. He's still doing it and still the only man that can make it sound original.

but do you have proof?

you cant always trust wikipedia because anyone can edit it. hell, i could easily go on the tapping page and edit it to say oh, i dont know......, say kurt cobain, and write that he created tapping. then some one after me will go on the same page and think that kurt cobain created tapping. so unless you have evidence, dont always believe what wikipedia says.

If there was nothing to revolutionise EVH wouldn't be as well known IMO.
the person who invented it > EVH.
