For christmas I'm getting some new guitar gear but it's has to be somewhat cheap. So I looked into Ibanez pedals but haven't gotten to test them out. My only question is, are they pedals like the Dunlop Crybaby or are they kind of like pre-amps?
Gear:
Epiphone Archtop Dot
Ibanez RG120
Peavey ValveKing 112
Dunlop Crybaby
Boss Distortion Ds-1
MXR Carbon Copy
Rocktron Banshee Talk box

err, they've got a whole range

they've got distortion pedals
they've got overdrive pedals (that famous Tubescreamer one )
they've got a wah pedal (which some people quite like)
they've got delay pedals (their analog delay is pretty nice)
they've got a flangers and phasers and stuff (that yellow one is pretty famous)

with a Spider and an MG.... I'd probably think about a better amp first

Yeah but are they foot pedals you can switch on and off or do they just give you the effects when you plug them in.

i'd say Fender Blues Jr ($479.99) or Pro Jr ($379.99).
Both are 15 watts, but the blues Jr has reverb and a better EQ (Pro Jr only has Vol and tone Controls)

and don't worry, 15 watts is PLENTY loud.

personally, i would say get the Pro Jr with a some other OD or distortion pedal here are a couple of suggestions (all under 100$):
Ibanez TS9 tubescreamer
MXR M-115 Distortion III
MXR M-104 Distortion+
Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive
Boss BD-2 Blues Driver
Boss OD-3 OverDrive
Digitech Sceamin' Blues
Digitech Bad Monkey
Electro Harmonix Big Muff Pi
ProCo Rat2
Marshall GV-2 Guv'nor
Danelectro DJ13 French Toast Octave Distortion
BBE Green Screamer Overdrive

there are many more, but these are the best ones.

Uh. He said he needed metal as well.

To be honest, I'd look into a Line 6 Flextone if I were you.

what type of punk?

I find the V-50 is great for my style of play which is punk (all kinds...hardcore, street, some pop, late 70's british punk etc..) Grunge, ska (skacore/skapunk, and regular ska), classic rock, 80's metal (black sabbath, iron maiden, ac/dc), a little classic rock and hard rock (zeppelin, beatles, foo fighters, QOTSA, pearl jam, Alice in Chains)
