Hey everyone! I've just recorded this video of me playing the song Sisters,
by Steve Vai.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gLLFM80qzU

I was quite happy with the results and posted the video on a guitar forum, for others to give me criticism, etc...

To my suprise, everyone said that my playing is miles out of tune with the backing track.

It sounded perfectly in tune to me
and I also checked the guitar and it was perfectly tuned.

Can you tell me if it really sounds "miles" out of tune, or am I just tone deaf?

I'm really scared because me and my band are going to perform this live in a few months!!!

EDIT: Youtube DID completely screw up the sound quality of the backing track
(you can barely hear the bass guitar), but I still think it does not sounds miles out of tune!!!

Reminds me of that drunkard who ran out of beer... he was so desperate, he drank furniture polish.

He came to a horrible end... but a beautiful finish.

very out of tune yes... but other than that it seems to me like you got the song down with rythm and all so just tune ^^

Yes, it sounds noticeably out of tune- can't really tell if it's because the guitar isn't spot on with the backing or if the guitar itself is out of tune though
Actually called Mark!

Out of tune. Are you sure you're using the right tuning for the song itself?
Then there's this band called Slice The Cake...

Bunch of faggots putting random riffs together and calling it "progressive" deathcore.
Stupid name.
Probably picked "for teh lulz"

Is it in tune with itself or actually in tune with a tuner?

The low E sounded fine to me, so I think it was just the guitar.

Is it in tune with itself or actually in tune with 440Hz tuning?

This too. My brother tunes his guitar to itself, and doesn't like when I tell him he's out of tune with me

It must be something wrong with youtube, because I swear that I tuned the guitar PERFECTLY (with an electronic tuner) before recording and I swear that it sounds perfectly in tune on the WMV file on my computer.

Does anyone have any tips to increase sound quality when uploading to Youtube?

It sounds 1000 times
better on my PC.

Was the tuner set to 440Hz tuning? If not then you need to fix that before using it again.

I look forward to seeing the in tune version, because your playing was very good.
