Right... im 18.
Im in a long distance relationship... She lives 200miles away.
My parents have decided that i cant go to see her because i dont have life insurance.
I really want to go, ive got the hotel sorted, and ive got train tickets. Im planning on going for 3 days.

Now my parents have told me that im a liar and deceitful. theyre currently hurling abuse at me by text message.

The way i see it, im legally an adult, and i am fully capable of making my own decisions based on my own judgment. I have a full time job, i work as an apprentice commercial trainee selling steel globally, and i have to travel 15miles to get to work every day. Im law abiding, i dont drink, i dont smoke, and i consider myself mature.
I cant think how ive given my parents any reason to mistrust me...

Theyve threatened to throw me out if i go to see my girlfriend...

I know this isnt important to any of you, but i could really use some guidance right now... how would you handle this situation?

At this point i wouldnt mind some pit humor =/ at the very least it mighty make me smile a bit.

Thanks for any help...
To all the villianous insects who preach their slanderous, dupliciticious loathing; to each beautiful walking laceration who made me weep and bleed ... I hope you choke

In all honesty, if you care about her you'd go and explain to your parents later. Hell I'd use the "Call me when you grow up" line on them since they're "hurling abuse" at you.
#4
I had a girlfriend who lived about four hours away when I was 16. I had the time and the money to go and see her, so I went regularly. What the fuck has it got to do with anyone else?

That said, you've gotta keep your parents onside or get your own place at 18. You can't be being pushed around but you've got to respect their rules. It's a tough balance.
#5
so you went there secretly?

tbh i seriously think you shouldnt have done that.

you should have explained to your parents how much it meant and if they still said no then respect it, follow what they say.
try to look at it in their point of view, they are obviously scared and worried about you, no matter how old you are, how dependant you are, never forget that your parents raised you and cared for you.

but since you have already done it you might as well see her, but remember to at least text msg you parents once in a while.
I see you're not using the UG black theme

"So Far Away" is a relevant song by Dire Straights.

But down to business...if you're an adult, go. What can your parents say when you get back happy and in one piece?

I'm in a relationship with someone I met online, and we live in separate countries. And we're both 15 and both of our parents don't want us to have relationships at this age. So, if you're feeling down about your problem, hopefully my own dilemma may cheer you up

The long distance thing sucks, to be sure.

But really. I'm 19, and I drive like 50 miles every other weekend to see my girlfriend. I see no issue with bumping that up to 200 if you're not even driving yourself, but taking a train.

Seriously, I'd say you need to have a serious conversation with your parents about the issue.

As far as pit humor goes: kill and rape your parents?
There will probably be a signature here at some point.

man youre like 18, and you have your own job, so why the hell do you have to be permitted by them...
you've got your own life...

legally an adult, they can't stop you and shouldn't, but they CAN kick you out, however if you have a job, you don't NEED them and If they can't see your side of things then maybe you shouldn't be living with them. My parents respect that I'm 18 and can do what I want but If I went out and abused that they'd kick me out, point being If they aren't going to let you grow up you need to grow some butterfly wings my friend. Have you tried maturely discussing with them, adult-to-adult, not just a shouting match?

Sounds like they're overprotective and trying to put you in a 'bubble'. It's your choice; it sounds like this girl is really important to you. I'd go for it, and like 'boreamor' said; tell them to 'grow up' themselves! They may be your parents, but their behavior sounds very immature.

No i havent been up to see her yet, shes come down te see me tho.
Ive told my parents that im going to see her, ive payed for it all myself, they havent given a pennys worth of support.

I cant beleive this theyre calling me immature, and unintelligent???
Ive lost so much respect for them in the last hour...

Thanks pit, you really are all worth your weight in gold!

Bring them her head if you want to win back their respect!

On a more immature note, I'd like to add, that I'm going to England ASAP to see a girl I met online once. Haven't told my parents, yet, so I don't know how they feel about it. I think I'm gonna leave the impression that I'll be going on a tour or whatever...

Anyway. My point being that sometimes it's just better not to tell your parents everything. Now by that I don't mean that you need to lie(not even "small white lies") but simply tell what they need to know, you see? Why? Because ignorance is a bliss.

Good luck with the journey and I hope you'll find what you're going after!

Just screw 'em. Go see her, man. You're 18. They have no legal control over you. Sure, they can throw you out, but you can rent an apartment, right? Maybe even one that's, like, across the street from your girl.

Your parents are assholes.

Seriously, talk to your parents about it. They should understand why their adult son wants to go see his girlfriend. If that doesn't work, the aforementioned killrape might be in order.

well, **** them. you're successful. you're well-off financially. and you have a hit song that lynyrd skynyrd covers on a regular basis. good for you!

as for pit humor:

1. a construction worker walks into a bar, but luckily he had his helmet on, so he was OKAY!

2. a porn star walks into a bar, 20 minutes of poorly written dialogue later, she's ****ED!

3. a mexican walks into bar, grabs a drink, and puts on his construction helmet to go to work on the roof.

4. a jew walks into a bar, 2 weeks later, he pwns said bar.

5. a nazi walks into a bar, you already know that the jew pwns it now, so i'll let the rest speak of itself. [reference punchline #2 for this joke]

6. a suicidal iraqi janitor walks into a bar, 3 hours later, he cleans up the mess his corpse made.

7. a satanist walks into a bar, he realizes he has no money, and walks out.

8. a female walks into a bar, and i bet you're imagining a pretty hot woman right now.

9. a construction worker walks into a bar, but he wasn't wearing his helmet. HE WAS SEVERELY INJURED.

10. i walk into a bar, and get kicked out for such poorly written jokes.

Yeah it sucks, but you do live in their house. You could consider moving out, if thats possible. When I was 18 I would have gone anyway, and apologized later. Of course, looking back, my parents were ridiculously forgiving. I was often threatened with being thrown out, but it never actually happened. I gave my parents a pretty hard time, now that I think about it.
Remember, they are trying to look out for out. It's a tough balance. I'd say go, and start looking for an apartment

Id like to be in your position. take it from a guy who only gets laid once in awhile:GROW A FREAKIN PAIR!

you only live once mate
#26
Beat your parents up and make them gargle on your cock. Then go see your girlfriend and make sweet lurve all night long.
#27
They wont let you go because you dont have life insurance? is your GF a Bear or a Lion or some other dangerous wild animal. If so i can see where their coming from.

But if not then i think your parents are alittle over protective. Just go for it man you only live once.

And if you die on your way there your parents will get no money you win all round.

Good Luck!!
#28
While it is of course best to keep your family up-to-date with your life, it was fuck all to do with them.

Wtf has "no life insurance" got to do with anything? You're not going to be shot from the train from a cannon, wearing a suit painted in liquid plutonium, into a pit of alligators where you swim to meet her are you?
If not, I seriously doubt you'll need life insurance just to spend 3 days with her.

He really should consider it. He'd get godly amounts of poon after doing something that awesome for her.

You don't need life insurance unless you're married or have kids.

You (and just about everybody else) do however need disability insurance in case you actually survive a serious trauma with disabilities (e.g. lose an arm).

dude, you're your own man. i understand it probably sucks if you still have to depend on them at the moment (idk if you live with them or not still), but if you've got things going straight for you, don't let them stop you. just explain that to them. they'll understand eventually.

edit: ^he makes an excellent point.

normally they'd have no right to tell you what to do about your gf and such, but considering you still live with them, you're not the independent adult you may think yourself to be. as long as you live with them you're subject to their rule and while it sucks, you may have to make some choices between living with your parents and seeing your girlfriend.
