Anyone know of any way to make a home made ebow? I quite like the idea of it, but I can't see myself forking out 70 quid on what appears to be a set of electromagnets and a 9V battery.

Yeah I agree, I'd like to see if anyone knows how to do this.

Basically, there's an opamp, an input coil and a driver coil. The coils use a permanent magnetic core composed of Alnico-5 and sense/cause the movement of the string.

more in the link, but that gives you the gist of it.
i think they're wrong about the coils having an A5 core.
i'm pretty sure they become immersed in the mag field from the pickup's magnet.

Cheers dudes, some of my friends are electronic engineers, so I'll ask them if they have any ideas regarding this.

I remember someone who actually made one once. I saved the schematic too but Firefox emptied my bookmarks for no reason some while ago. Search around diystompboxes.com, because i think that's where I found it. And be sure to make an account first because there is a section with posts that only members can see. This might help, even though it's in Dutch, but the schematic part is what might be helpful:

Whenever I clean my guitars, my family wonders why it smells so good; I say that I exude a fresh citrus scent from hidden orifices.
