I recently bought a Shure Beta 58A, and I'm trying to decide what I should use for optimal recording on a low budget, I was thinking:

M-Audio XLR to USB

It's M-Audio so I know it won't be crap, I'm just wondering will this give me good quality recording? I'm going to be recording vocals and my amp with it, will I need a sound proofed room or will it be clean as is?

I just want to get a basic image on how good it will sound, I'm not doing that serious of recording, it's just to get demo's down in our band.

Thanks.

This should be in the riffs and recordings forum.

As for recording, I would look for something with fire wire. Absolutely no latency, much better than USB.

Why would I care about latency when the work station has a monitor in it?

because your recording will lag. And M-AUDIO does not equal quality...

M-audio makes some quite low end stuff.

I'd get a presonus Inspire, amazing recording interface.

or if you have windows xp(does not work on vista) the mackie onyx sattelite is better

^This

you'll get more info over there, those guys talk about this stuff all day long.

if you have a low budget, then get the M-Audio. Did you say you want to record voice thru the amp? By itself or with a guitar?

Again, Riffs and Recordings is where you need to be.
