Just an idea, but maybe learn how chords are constructed instead? It will be much more useful than shapes.

like regression said, you can learn how chords are constructed, there are really good articles on here about music theory like learning the notes on the fret board then taking the root note adding a major 3rd to that and a minor 3rd to that, and bam, you just made a major chord of the root note. I know this is probably not a very good way to explain it, but I knew nothing about it before reading it so you will pick it up too. If anyone knows what I am talking about please give him the link to that. thanks
