How do you transpose a song into another key?

Lets say you need to switch a song from the key of G to D

How do you do it?

Figure out the notes in the new key, figure out how they correspond to the notes in the old key, and then play them. There's no trick to it.
Someones knowledge of guitar companies spelling determines what amps you can own. Really smart people can own things like Framus because they sound like they might be spelled with a "y" but they aren't.

just figure out the change in pitch from G to D and apply that to G to get D
ex
1st string 3rd fret G
move that down to the next D, 2nd string 3rd fret, or 5 frets

That was basically my question I guess...

How do you figure out the notes in the New Key?

The theory sticky covers scale construction.
