learn the minor pentatonic, and blues scale and major scale NOW, go do it.
its for playing in songs, soloing, improvising, theory, they pretty much relate to all aspects of playing.

Scales are supposed to improve with your ability to improvise. Baseing things around a certain scale and the notes around it, in say a solo or riff, will mean that the sounds don't jar with each other

it will make your left hand stronger and faster, your right hand picking will get faster and more accurate. you willl be able to improvise over songs freely, you'll be able to write music better.

music is based off scales. writing riffs, improvising, and all that stuff will be a lot easier, and once you get a metronome you can practice them

Head and Cab for $130? You don't need a head and cabinet, you need a psychological examination.
