I think its the action? Correct me if i'm wrong.

But is there anyway to reduce this? coz i started playing my old bass again today for the first time in ages and it was so much easier to play. It has thinner gauge of strings on it, but i think it might alsobe down the the distance of the strings on my other.

Yeah so in short is there anyway to get the strings closer to the fret board?

Edit: and also will changing the strings to a thinner gauge, make the bass easier to play, if i cant reduce the action?

Regarding the "edit," yes that will make it easier to play.

Regarding lowering the action, I believe there is a walkthrough in the guitar & bass basics forum under the faq thread.
