hey there UG! OK, We've just formed a band and we need some thrash metal shit to cover, but not with fast tempo yet cause our drummer isnt that experience in double bass(but hes practising to nail it). Can you recommend any thrash metal songs that we can cover which has a fast beat but not with a fast double bass drums, about the solo is no problem cause i'm handling the lead guitars and I know a little bit shredding. thx!and METAL RULEZ!

For Whom The Bell Tolls by Metallica.

Thrash isn't easy. Also, if it's not fast, it's probably not thrash. Get your drummer to do some serious practice until they can play fast enough. I don't know much about songs that don't use double bass much but Seek and Destroy is an all-round simple(ish) song i believe.

Most of the songs in this thread simply aren't thrash or recognizably thrash, just made by thrash bands . Most of them are low tempo, thrash is high tempo period. Check out hit the lights for a thrash song that doesn't use much double bass drumming.

So you bassically want to thrash slowly?

That's better than "this goes to 11"

oh and yao151 i love the fact that you as a fan of metallica and slayer likes John Frusciante, i wish more people around here had an open mind like that

Master of Puppets by you know who doesn't have double bass... I think. Don't quote me on that.

But yeah, double bass is pretty important in thrash music. Hard to think of some songs without it.

Well, Holy Wars - Megadeth doesn't have it? Hangar 18? IDK if you guys could pull some of these off though... no idea how good you are

to the rats - trivium

oh wait easy songs umm yeah i got nothing that hasnt been said

I dare anyone to find a genuine thrash song without double kickers. Every song named so far has them at one stage, besides for whom the bell tolls.

Try ...And Justice for All by Tallica, it's got a tiny bit of kickers but you can just turn them into a basic beat in the parts they are in. It's a very hard song to play all the way through though.

thanks guyz! well, were now practicing tornado of souls with holy diver to balance the songs.. btw our drummer is a lil bit improving though, he can now kick the intro of raining blood.hehe! if you got some other suggestions pls just tell me. thx
#29
just my 2 c. if u want to play a fast song, and ur drummer cant keep up with double bass then just play it without double bass? it might not sound as cool but the lack of double bass doesnt 'ruin' the song if u know what i mean. i dont know if anyone else feels that way?
#31
Pretty bog standard suggestions so far. How about these for size

Cranium - Slaughter On The Dance Floor
Sacred Reich - The American Way (double kick in the chorus but very manageable by the sounds of it)
Exodus - Toxic Waltz
Nuclear Assault - Critical Mass
Overkill - Elimination
Sodom - Agent Orange
Testament - Practice What You Preach
Dark Angel - Darkness Descends
Vio- lence - Eternal Nightmare
Exumer - Destructive Solution

Been a while since I've listened to much thrash, so im going by memory here in relation to double kick usage but I don't think theres anything on that list which double kick features prominently.

Antisocial by Anthrax. Kinda punk flavored metal, but lively pace.

If you're gonna do DIO, try Rainbow in the Dark instead of Holy Diver. It would probably fit better into the up-temp set list.
