Don't tell me to get a DiMarzio or Seymour Duncan, I'm just curious to know about Gibson's pups.

Whats their highest output pickup with massive lows and high clarity, excellent for metal and heavier genres?

DirtyFingers? 500t?

I can't imagine anything worse than shagging to Mark Knopfler.

Maybe shagging Mark Knopfler, but that's about it.

dirty fingers can be coil tapped, i have one in my viper and its fantastic. i gets way dirtier/heavier than the EMGs i took out of it and with more clarity.
i used to be a mod, then i took an arrow in the knee.

Interesting, I'm now split between both, and the DirtyFinger is like $10 more than the 500t. Now here is where the problem comes in. If I were to go with either, i would really love to have one covered...and i dont see any option for that anywhere...

wow...sweetwater is cheap!!!

anyway, if i buy a cover...how would it go on? if you notice with the 500t, the bottom coil doesnt have any screws, its just the poles which would go under the part of the cover with no holes...as opposed to the DF which has screws for both coils...what do i do here??

edit: and what material for the cover? Nickel or Chrome? Which one would fade or tarnish quicker??

It has screws on the bottom coil, you just can't see they very well in the picture. Mine are covered in my SG.

Why would you buy Gibson pickups?!

Dimarzio and Seymour Duncan make cheaper and better sounding pickups.

ok so i think im set on getting a 500t with a nickel cover so it fades quick.

The reason i dont want SD or DiMarzio is because my Syn custom has custom voiced/wound Invaders, and my C-1 has a JB, and i never have been a fan of DiMarzio. and Gibsons pickups have always interested me, since the 500t, Burstbucker +, '57 Classic, 490t, etc.etc. are on their expensive as hell guitars that have the ability to do heavy stuff very well.

Just curiosity, also this thread may be helpful for those who are also interested. =]

My Syn standard is kinda reliced, or getting there, so i figure if i leave an uncovered black pup in the neck spot, and a faded covered pup in the brdge it will give it more of a individual look

lol...

ahh... hahaha.

Why don't you just buy a used pup cover off eBay? Maybe an older looking one?

It'll be cheaper, too. Good pup covers are more or less $20...

i could, but i might as well buy new if nickel will fade fairly quick. The cover is only like $13 anyway

Well, looks like you just ran into a win-win, sir!

You may have to reroute and make it angled if you wanna fit it in there. But that could also add a bit more individuality to the look
Then there's this band called Slice The Cake...

Stupid name.

The pups in the Jimmy Page Les Paul are custom Burstbuckers...and regular Burstbuckers are no where near the highest output Gibson makes, so i would imagine custom would put them around the same or similar output as the ceramics.

The "Pagebuckers" that were in JP sig are low ouput pickups with an Alnico 3 magnet. They aren't hot at all, bright but not hot. The 90's JP sig which was more of a Page influenced guitar rather than a full on replica like the more recent one had the shitty ceramics.
