i've been at university for a few weeks now, and my diet is appalling

i'm pretty skint, so my budget is only 10 quid a week for food. i ended up coming under budget last week and making it last for 2 weeks

however, this isn't healthy food - 24 jaffa cakes for 40p, kinda food. sainsburys basic is pretty amazing!!

anyway, any chefs out there? any tips for food that won't break the bank, is easy to make and is relatively healthy

Fresh vegetables and hummus.

Fresh fruits.

Battered Fish - two servings for 99p at your local supermarket

Just remove the batter

That's probably not healthy though, batter isn't good. It's just what I had for lunch...

Look it up online, you can get tins of decent soup for 38p.

They've also got a massive reduction on their fresh fruit and veg right now in lidl.

Tuna, whole grain bread/rice/pasta.

Avoid Ramen, loaded with sodium. Here we have Mr. Noodles and in a single pack there is nearly DOUBLE the daily recommended amount of salt.

Might have to do some walking then.

If you wanna live on a budget, asda price are the way to go, Yes, I knoww pretty much everyone hates Asda because its owned by Wal Mart, and they're American, but I think its the cheapest. Anyways, watch that new program Jamie's ministry of food, that'll give you some ideas.

Do some Stew and Dumplings, all you need is Veggies and ingedients for dumplings and it should last for a few days depending on how much you make

Or perhaps a stir-fry?

Fresh fruit and veg. Buy a lettuce and use some with every meal you have.
And get houmous and pitta bread as a snack, tastes really good too.

Pasta's your friend, cook a huge pot of tomato sauce (meat is optional, it could really drive up the price of the meal) freeze it in separate servings and when you want some just cook some pasta and grab a container of sauce. If you want fresh meat throw on some sausage when you make it.

Buy a huge bag of pasta and it'll last you for years to come and is easy/fast to make. Same thing for rice/lentils/other-third-world-country-staples, they know what they're doing.

And don't underestimate the power of breakfast, I get 100% of my recommended daily dose of iron with the first meal of the day, and a good chunk of vitamins/fiber/protein.

And finally, multi-vitamins.
