Is there any way to reroute my active pickups to passive ones? My EMGs just got ****ed and I'm gonna relace them with some passive dimarzios.
#2
You can replace them, but you should replace the pots with 500K ones. Other than that, it's pretty much the same wiring.

If the pickups are active because of a built in preamp then not much can be done you gotta pretty much destroy an EMG to get em apart. But if you are gonna use passives and add an active booster then yea a switch can be added.

He's not asking if he can put a switch in, he's asking if he can make the switch to passive.

Ok so I've never switched a pickup before, what difference do the pots make when I switch? why is 500k better than whatever's in there right now? (It's a Schecter Hellraiser FR)

Actives will have 25k pots, which is too high a resistance for passives. In order to switch out pickups, you need to be able to solder. Get an iron and some solder and practice on random bits of wire. If you don't wanna do all of this, you can take it to a tech to do it for you (not for free, unfortunately).

That should give you the general idea and
http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=3ws_trans
will show you how to wire the switch.

That will show you how to work with the colors on the pickups and the diagrams.

ok cool. I know how to solder, sounds like a bit bigger project than I thought but as long as its possible thats good. Do I just leave the battery pack in there and disconnect it when i'm done then?
#8
Yeah, passives don't require batteries, so just leave it in and disconnect it.

Passives use 250k or 500k pots, a much higher resistance than 25k...
