Do you guys actually know what the basic principles of Democrats and Republicans are? I do, and I just want to find out if other people are actually informed. I'm kinda tired of people saying "I'm a Republican" or "I'm a Democrat" they don't even know what their party's platform is.

Also, I want to know about some of the lesser known parties (like the Green Party and Socialist Party) and what they are doing.

So discuss what you know, so we all can be a little more informed.

P.S. The Political thread is too general and unruly for a topic this specific.

Republican parties in Ireland generally want a thirty two county united Ireland.

Does that help?

Libertarian = do whatever the hell you want, as long as it doesn't interfere with whatever the hell I am doing. Correct?

I don't align myself with any particular party because they all are capable of doing something really stupid, and I don't want to be seen as supporting that.

Also, political parties have changed a lot throughout history. For example, the Democratic and Republican parties in American politics have essentially flipped over the last 100 years. Democrats used to be the white supremacist party and carried the south in most elections, while the Republicans were the progressives, the reformers, the ones who cared about equality and justice.

I still don't like either one very much though, mostly because they both support genocide.

Party discussions from other countries are welcome too!

The Republican and Democratic platforms are so vague and up to interpretation that they overlap eachother again and again, which leads to a one party system.
The only use of the independent parties are that they bring up issues that the others will not touch because they don't want to lose voters. This produces an electoral system that is based on charisma, not political standpoint.

This isn't to do with the US election. It's to do with the doctrines of various political parties. Why not be useful in your reporting.

Go Libertarian!

>_>

<_<

Babies love Libertarians because they share the same level of social awareness.

I on the other hand enjoy having roads, policemen, firemen and an education system that isn't confined to a wealthy elite.

Maybe some pop musicians should investigate this too cause they mostly make themselves look like complete douchebags pretending they know what's going on in the world and that their opinion is cared about. ie Madonna, Diddy, ect.. while some of the stuff they say is general accepted as correct they basically make themselves look completely ignorant.

I sure thought so.

I dont like to commit myself to any political parties, especially not the Reps or the Dems. Everyone I know thinks I am a Democrat though (hence my usertitle).

Independants kick ass, basically, but if a really worthy party comes along with ideals I agree with, then I will be first in line to join them.
