I wanna have like a bluesy/ rocky tone a la Kings OF Leon or The Cribs or something.

I also sorta want a Head-Cab thing as combo wont allow me to experiment with different cabs etc.

I was thinking or an AC30 but then there's cool orange amps and fender hot rods or whatever
I'm asking UG 'cause the local music shop closed and there's none around here.

Any opinions?

Thanks

(budget of about £700)

an orange rocker sounds pretty tasty. but the head and cab would be a bit more expensive than just the combo.

Both Orange Rocker 30 and Vox AC30 are awesome, but the AC30 can do a bigger range of sounds imo

Yeah i was thinking about that. I might get the cab first then save for the head

VC30 is right up your street but you can do better for £700. im thinking orange

hang on

*opens GAK in new tab*

Laney lionheart head + cab of your choice would be killer
Orange rocker 30 would be ace but doesnt leave much for a cab, try used?
Peavey C30 head + cab of your choosings
Peavey windsor head - might be a bit crap
Sound City SC-50H sound decent, doesnt make full use of your budget though
Vox AC-50 head same as orange, great sound, not much room for a cab

i'd probably go with the C30 or the lionheart

as for cabs, £250-350 get you a marshall 1936 or an orange PPC212 at a push

try stuff out though

You're recommending a Classic 30 over a Rocker 30 and AC30? Have you even tried a Classic 30?

The Lionheart is awesome though.

^£350 could quite easily get a used orange 2x12.

I'd personally go and try the Rocker, AC30 and lionheart Stevo suggested, though i myself would probably go for the AC30 for what you want - it just has that grit to it

of course i've tried a C30, cranked, it was made of win

theres no point in spending £600 on a head and cheaping out on a cab, C30+decent cab+money left over for pedals is a decent option

see that, option

I like the simplicity of the orange rockers, 2 great channels, the rocker 30 combo would be a great buy

So you're saying you should cheap out the head rather than the cab? That's foolish.

why would he mod a low budget amp when he can get a decently priced amp suited for his styles.

Many YouTube videos later... I think I'm leaning towards the rocker 30... It just doesn't sound so harsh s the AC30. Do all the settings on orange amps sound that (don't know how to describe it) Springy ?

you should try out a modded peavey valveking. alot of people here has one

with that much money why not just buy an amp thats already 100 times better than the valveking out of the box.
to the TS ? about the ac50, my advice is this, dont get it, its not real vox, its sounds like piss ass compared to a ac30 or 15.
and dont worry about a head or a combo man, many combos come with an out jck so you could plug into a cab with your combo.
#21
I don't understand why you don't just get a combo and swap out speakers if you don't like it.

Its not as if you are going to buy like 10 different cabs anyways.

Orange rocker sounds nice, the ac-30 is nice as well. compare them and see what you like better

^ I've seen them go used for nearer to the £250 mark so when looking for cabs, bear it in mind. Heavy but immense cabs!

If your set on the head and cab combination (i'm not gonna try and sway you into going for a combo), then definitely keep buying used as an open option. You could happily snag up an Orange Rocker and Orange 2x12 in your budget Think it would suit you really well, though the AC30 is also a definite candidate, as it has that grit for things like KoL.
