Are there electric guitar method books out there?

I'm working through a book for the classical guitar right now and I'm getting a lot out of it. Unfortunately it seems that most books for the electric guitar use tabs and scale shapes rather than notation and good theory. I'd love to find a real method book for the electric rather than "blues for dummies" etc.

i get good results from playing single melodic lines from classical pieces on electric , its a fun way to learn the pieces too .
also i can recommend "Routes to Sight Reading" by chas hart

Leavitt's Modern Method for Guitar is quite nice. Working through it now, myself. Highly regarded, and uses standard notation throughout. Wouldn't say it's electric guitar specific, but it certainly works fine with a pick.

Grep.
