As the title says, I'm looking into these two amps and looking to achieve a tone similar to SRV/Hendrix, I'm happy to invest in a tube screamer if its necessary
Pick one and justify your opinion

if those are the only options, fender because if you crank it clean, you will get closer tones, SRV used a tubescreamer to add flavor to natural overdrive from a cranked fender, not imitate it

The blues deluxe is a pretty good option, but I would recommend comparing it to the hot rod deluxe (theyre both the same price) to find the tone you like best.

HRD would be tuff imo.
Classic 30 is a good all-rounder.
BF too, but is cleaner.
Blues deluxe would be good to check too.

are you buying new or used?
is it down to these 2 amp only?
they are both great amps imo - it is down to taste - can you play both first?

otherwise, i dislike these threads. too hard. it depends.

Peavey Delta Blues. Because...
1). Cleans aren't fender but very good and eq'able to achieve SRV because...
2). It has tremolo, needed for many SRV songs.
3). It has very good reverb, granted not fender surf reverb, but enough for JH or SRV.
4). It has better speaker options, 2-10"'s or 1-15", pushes more air.
5). The gain side is going to hit Hendrix without a pedal and SRV. (not to mention a gah-zillion other bands...) The fender has meh drive on board.

Sure you could get an eq or TS clone with either. But with the Delta Blues, you wouldn't need to right away.
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, then it hit me.

The Fender Blues deluxe
Peavey classic 30
Fender Deluxe roadhouse strat
Delta Blues

I'll pop in there some time in the following month or so and make my decision, i guess i should make my decision with regards to gain when a tubescreamer is hooked up

i think the fender would probably be better for SRV tones, but the peavey classic would win for hendrix tones. the classic is a very nice all around amp, but the cleans on the fender are better. pushing the fender gets a nice od, but the C30 has better sounding gain IMO. i havent tried the delta blues, but the way people talk about it then it is one you should try out. i think all 3 of those are nice amps and you wont be unhappy with any of them. you may not get the exact sound for everything, but you will still have a good tone.

I can get a rather good blues tone through my Laney GH100L when i split my bridge PAF PRO with the single coil in my pgm301.
