in my local music store there is a squier guitar, its from the 70s i think it says, surf green, and the tone kobs are like yellowed so its old, or reissue, but it says very rare and its onli 150 quid, is it worth buying, cos im a huge strat lover and i think it looks reeli nice, and if its rare then i might get it to keep

Play it.
If it's comfortable and sounds good, then go for it.

yeah, but i already have a perfectly good fender strat, so the onli reason i would buy it is if it is truly rare

Surf green is a great color, and even if the guitar sounds crappy you can just swap the pickups.

or you could totally have 2 strats!!!

If your actually gonna play it, dont buy it. Squiers aren't very good unless you customize them, so you'll wind up shelling out more money than you previously planned.

But if you wanted to buy it for a collection or something, then go for it.

u dunno... 150 quid sounds like a jap reissue, oh, btw, i dont think they did surf green in the 1970's, it was a custom colour though so i dont know, mate, the only reason i'd buy that strat if it were the best player you've ever picked up (which it might be cause jap strats have a brilliant reputation)

Edit:

I missed the squire part, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

I'd be cautious if I were you. I don't know price conversions well, but 150 quid is about $300 USD right? Correct me if I'm wrong. Someone could have put vintage-looking knobs on it just to make it look older. And maybe it's just meant to LOOK "very rare". Ask 'em about it.

yeah, its second hand though, and there is a tiny bit of rust on the bridge, it says that the colour is rare not the guitar itself, sorry i mis-worded that, its got a mapl neck with maple fingerboard, imm try it next weekend when i go back, but ill give them a call tomorrow about it, im freinds with the guys who work there ive known them since i got my first guitar

I think vintage japanese Squiers are actually really nice guitars. Check the serial number and see if you can track down where it was made etc.

Yeah, old MIJ Squires probably play better than half the MIA strats out there.

right, in that case, when i get paid on friday i may well go out and buy it , or at least put a deposit on it

1970s?
Doubt it, Squier started in 82.

you'd need a bit more info. you need to be careful that it's not a bog standard one from like 2 years ago which is just in bad condition... if it's a jv or something, though, that'd be a pretty good price.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

Check the serial number and find out where it was made. If its a jap then its a good buy, it prolly wont appreciate in value to though if thats what your looking for. Jap squires are some of the best deals on the used market, for price to quality ratio.

havent had chance to call the shop today, but have done some digging, could be older then 1982, thats just when the name was official but during the late 60s and 70s fender got the rights to the name squier and did produce some guitars, but if thats the case then it would be more expensive cos of the rarity of it , so tomorrow i will do my best to get in touch with the shop and ask about it

I dunno, lets say it is from the 70's. That makes it a CBS era fender. The real deal fenders from that era are hit or miss, and generally aren't sought after, now imagine the squier series....
