prince... i dont agree with him being on number 1. Actually, the TRUE unsung heroes are the ones that arent famous, but are amazingly good.

Frusciante is unsung? Bullshit, tons of people worship him.

Hmm
John Mayer... Famous
Kurt Cobain... Famous
Johnny Greenwood... Famous
John Frusciante... Famous
Lindsay Buckingham... Famous
Neil Young... Famous
Prince... Famous

I see a pattern, but it's still implied that these people are "unsung heroes"

Edit:

That list sucks! Why aren't I on it?

But seriously, there're way better guitarists than most of them. John Frusciante, should possibly be there, but the rest, no. What about Andy Powell? What about Kyle Gass? What about James Hetfield? What about... you get my point.

That's my opinion anyway.

Except for Prince

Ugh....

you wouldn't think it, but he's actually pretty savvy when it comes to music... REALLY savvy.

It's really just a list of good guitarists. Though I do think it's about time someone put Prince up on a list like this, the guy could play the tit off most guitarists I know.

lrn2read, people. It isn't "unsung guitarists", it's "Unsung guitar performances".

Except John Frusciante is known pretty well for his live shows and even BSSM and Stadium show how crazy he can get in the studio...
In his case, it would be more correct if they had only released Californication and had done smaller shows that not many people knew about. Except that clearly isn't the case.

John Mayer is also pretty well known (outside of the pop circles) for his live performances.

This, aswell as Kurt Cobain.

Unsung guitar heros would be the people who aren't famous but awesome. If they have to be famous though, Robert Fripp, Chuck Schuldiner, Steven Wilson, etc would be worthy mentions.

I do believe TS sabotaged his thread by saying it's a list of "unsung guitar players."

The list is obviously about guitar players who were completely unexpected, but totally awesome.

Case in point, Kurt Cobain. He would never seem to be a great guitar player. He was out of a barely-above-slum status Washington State town. He was dirty, grungy, and from a broken home. And out of nowhere, he writes these amazing songs.

Unsung means not honored or praised.
All the guitarists on that list are honored or praised.

There are thousands of guitarists with stories and backgrounds like Cobain's. He was nothing special.

Pretty good list, I think. I know it's just for fun and sharing opinion, but I'd change Neil Young to number 1, maybe knock Prince down a peg or two, and as much as I love him, I'd probably leave off Kurt.

But, if you notice, the article in question never mentioned "unsung." It simply said "7 moments of unexpected guitar awesomeness."

Being unsung has nothing to do with it.

Not to mention he's a brilliant songwriter as well

Angus Ypung is famous, but hell he is not appreciated a he should be...

Man! that little man IS the best showman I've ever saw! plus, he is not a technique master or some, but he has a particular sound, catchy riffs, and he rocks awesomely (hehe, "awesomely"). and he never gets mentioned in this kind of lists, but I think he gets good rockin' licks... that's all

If you can, hear "whole lotta rosie", from "if you want blood, you've got it" album!

If they have fame, then you have some sort of expectation of what is to come, IMO.

Hence, no unexpectation.

Now, Mike Sullivan? "Carpe"? THAT was unexpected.
