My Strat is in need of an overhaul. It's the best FEELING guitar I've ever played but the pickups are dreadful. I've been looking into the hum-canceling DiMarzio's (Air Norton S and the like) but I've never heard them in action. I have the humbucker Air Norton on my RG, does the single-coil version sound similar?

I'm all over the place in terms of musical style, but I suppose the main focus would be Progressive and Fusion. I want the neck to be warm-sounding, have sustain, nice harmonics, and sound good both clean and distorted. The bridge should be somewhat hot, not as bright as standard the standard Strat bride pup. I'd like it to be able to clean up really well in the middle positions though too.

Any and all suggestions are welcome.

U know, Dimarzio does have sample clips of their pickups in action. And most likey, no. Humbucker =/= singlecoil. You can look into semour duncans. Heard they do some sweet single coils.
