Alright so I wanted to study animation, but the university that is really good over here requires a 12 week internship before the application.

At least, thats what I thought..

turns out, they just want 12 weeks experience at some kind of company that has to do with graphics. this includes website-design companies, which i could have done at home, working 8 hours a week.

no, i moved to berlin and am working 50+ hours a week at a tiny 3d- animation company that does things for the web. i have no money and no friends (i dont get paid in the internship and the 3 other guys working there are in their 40's), and have very little extra time. Before I moved to berlin people from the university and studen loans office said that I would get financial aid for the duration of the internship.

for some reason, after i moved, they completly changed their minds and refuse to help me in any way.

so I'm lonely, which is pretty much my biggest problem. to few distractions, too much time to think abotu my problems. any suggestions on how to meet people in a big city?
germans are pretty hard to get to know, i must add. unless they're drunk, but then they dont remember you the next day. :P

Try and do as many activities as you can. If you can join some evening classes or something it would be good. Just basically put yourself in a situation where everyone else there is alone.

Living in germany is rough. But they like metal. Anyhoo, stick it through, something cool might turn up to tell ppl about, and in 5 years, it won't matter to you anymore anyway.

Just try and start a conversation with people. Really the only way to make friends or meet people is to: A) go to a place where there are lots of people already and B) try and talk to some of those people. Good luck with making friends and everything else.

Get drunk or do drugs. Hang out in bars in your free time and you'll meet all kinda cool people.

I just moved to Boston, MA from a small town in Texas.

I have also moved from Texas to Madrid, SPA so i kind of know what it is like.

My best advice is to just throw yourself out there, it will probably take a while but eventually you will find people you can relate to.

Where are you from? I am sure that there has to be people of your same nationality somewhere in Berlin. Perhaps you can look for them? It would make relating to them a whole lot easier.
There may be times when it is impossible to prevent injustice, but there should never be a time when we fail to protest it.

There are some nice guys that hang around the A-traine and Quasimodo's jazz bars and the music is awesome too. I'm sure I saw some jam nights at various places advertised while I was over there too, that could be a good way to meet some people. Other than that just find a pub or club you like the look of and go there a few times, get chatting with some of the regulars.

Sleepless in Berlin. Sounds like a Porno movie

Anyways I'm sorry to hear that. I wanted to be an animator but I said I wasn't good enough at drawing.
I think you should come to America.

Are you just over there for 12 weeks or are you planning on staying longer?

You should have like 10 bucks, right? That'll give you access to the FritzClub - best club in berlin. Believe me, I've been living here my whole life.
The club is near S-Bahn-station Ostbahnhof. You can find friends there, meet up with them later and stuff. Just tell them where you come from and that you want to meet some people...
