when u learn a scale pattern, lets say the C major scale...if i wanted to continue the scale in a different position, do i use the same shape or would i end up changing the key altogether ?

and that goes for all scales as well

The pattern will be different in different positions.

Here are 5 patterns for the major scale that cover the entire neck, notice how each pattern is different. Also, if you look at the bottom you'll see how all the patterns connect over the entire neck.

to make sense of these patterns it's helpful to understand scale construction and to be aware of the notes on the neck, at least on the low strings.
