Theres loads of wah in soothsayer, so I'd recommend some kind of wah pedal in there, wouldn't really know what else to do, I just use any random distortion and add the wah, and it sounds.. good enough =X

haha yeah

i guess reverb is essential too

i'll work it out in due time i suppose

Holy crap, that is one mess of a signal chain there. Total mess.

You're stuck with an F-50 I guess, I think anything F-250 or under is horrible. But if you feel comfy with it that's good. The whammy I'm guessing you know how to use when it's done in the song. Ditch the delay. Does the hot rod deluxe have an effects loop?

Try to get something like a BOSS reverb or something if you're on a budget. What I want to know is how the hell you get any usable shred tone out of a hot rod deluxe.

Buckethead uses les paul's (albeit with custom necks) and they have a very fat mahogany tone. The F-50 has an agathis body and is typically very bright yet muddy.

Here's two scenarios.

a) Buy an LTD EC-500 or something similar, maybe a schecter too. Run that through a better amp like a B-52 combo or something, they are relatively cheap, "the poor mans mesa". Buckethead uses mesa's live.

or b) if you're on a budget.. buy some kind of GOOD distortion, a separate reverb, and an EQ pedal. Good distortions = sansamp gt-21(i think its called that, i forgot exactly), maybe a line 6 pod or something.

Gah I don't know, but you're current setup is horrible for what you're trying to do. It's a poorly constructed guitar made for metal ran through an amp made for jazz and blues. Not much can be done about that

yeah bit strapped for cash

but i'll take that into consideration, there IS a marshall stack i can borrow from a friend

i dunno, see how that turns out...

i can mic up the stack to a sound desk and EQ it from there if necessary

As long as it's not an MG stack, haha.

I dunno about Soothsayer, but would you maybe need a killswitch? I'm not very familiar with the song, but I know he uses a lot of killswitch, does he not?

Buckethead uses the following gear live (unsure about the studio):

1. Mesa Triple Rectifier amp
2. Custom Gibson Les Paul w/ DiMarzio PAF Pro, Air Norton pickups
3. Dunlop 535Q Wah
4. DigiTech Whammy
5. Some sort of delay

Essentially to get a Buckethead tone you're going to need an amp similar to a Triple Recto. I'm not really sure what else he uses in terms of live gear, but that's all you'll need for Soothsayer (aside from the chops to play it, of course )

Greg what did you send me??

haha yeah, my wah seems fine at the moment

its a rocktron black cat, aside from the unreliable turning on and off, it does the job

of course, if it continues to be gay i'll opt for the 535Q i suppose

god i've played/heard that song so many times this week i could pick out an A# by ear...(thats the key its in)

So a delay, overdrive, pitchshifter, and wah.
