I took a walk up to the ocean
And all I got was my feet wet
I went along with a stupid notion
That I could get back to when we first met

Hayley, the sun ain’t been shining
Lately, the Lord knows I’m trying
Maybe, I’m never gonna get into you

The rain it fell in late October
I couldn’t feel a thing but the cold
I couldn’t believe that it was over
And I couldn’t watch the love we had unfold

Hayley, the sun ain’t been shining
Lately, the Lord knows I’m trying
Maybe, I’m never gonna get into you

Oh, Hayley
Do you remember me?
We wrote our names in the sand
Amidst the noise of the bellowing sea

Hayley, the sun ain’t been shining
Lately, the Lord knows I’m trying
Maybe, I’m never gonna get into you

I took a walk up to the ocean
Back to where on you my eyes first lay
I ran through the wind and stormy weather
To find that the sea had washed us away

I'm finding it difficult to pin down a particular genre to fit this into, any thoughts TS?

Anyway, I like the line 'Lately, the Lord knows I've been trying' in particular.
I think the use of the word 'lately' gives the piece a quirkier feel, and adds to the sense of time passing that is prevalent throughout.

I'm not so keen on the use of the word 'stupid' in the first line, but since I can't think of anything better to use...

Actually, the piece reminds me a bit of Biffy Clyro's 'Mountains'

One last thing, I really like the line 'Maybe, I'm never gonna get into you'
For some reason it just appeals to me.
