Hi there good felllows at UG.

I'm looking to upgrade my gear, though I'm not quite sure what I should upgrade first.

Currently I have a cheap strat copy by "cruiser by crafter"
My amp is a Marshall 15DFX.

I personally would got for another guitar. Since you said "cheap" it sorta screams to me.. "NEW GUITARRR"

Cause the amp is fine i suppose, unless your going to play anywhere.. not like you actually need a brilliant amp at home unless your serious about the whole guitar idea.

Budget? If you tell us that we can help out more. But don't take this badly, your rig sucks. So basically both would be a leap in an upgrade.

For amps I'd look at the smaller tube crate amps or an Epiphone Valve JR. They're worth the money, plus almost ANYTHING tube sounds better then Solid State

For guitar? I'd recommend a nicer Epiphone in the 300-500$ range. Becuase that will carry you a lonnnng way.

So basically for a good little tube amp it would be cheaper, but if you have a bit more dough shell out for a Epiphone.

Amp definately. I would get something all-tube, and there are some good small combos for under $300 out there.

Guitar first...check out some Epiphone LP's as that will give you an all round good guitar...then pick up a nice small tube amp combo

get a cheap marshall... my MG15DFX has a button that simulates the sound of one of the expensive tube marshall amps.

normally it would be amp, as where thats the sound.
but if you have like an walmart brand guitar, deffinately the guitar. you want something at least playable...

I feel bad looking at porn simply because of the ol' story that a lot of those girls were molested as children, But I've never heard of midgets being molested, so it doesn't matter to me anymore, as that's the only kind of porn I watch.

If you are really comfortable with your guitar, then you should get a new amp. If you aren't comfortable playing your guitar, then I would recommend going to the store and try a bunch of different guitars and see which feels best in your hands. After all, it doesn't matter how good your sound is if you suck at playing . (IMO)

Yeah, but the funny part is that they're also far more fickle and inconvenient, ESPECIALLY when they're cheap like a Valve Jr. For Jeebus' sake, it doesn't even have EQ or master volume! I would recommend a Valvetronix over a Valve Jr. simply because he won't have to have more distortion or clean headroom.

I would definitely say that solid state distortion can be made to sound good with some EQing, and solid-state cleans are on par and in some cases even better than tube cleans depending upon your preferences with regards to headroom and compression.

I would go ahead and say upgrade your guitar first, then your amp, but that's just me.

Well, yeah the valve Juniors are annoying but a Crate v9 or something would be good.
