What?

What rule did I possibly break?

EDIT:

As a matter of fact I was FOLLOWING the rules and using the searchbar to save UG some server space when I came upon this perfect thread.

And this thread wasn't even made THAT long ago. A few months ago.

The X2n is about equivalent, but it sounds like poo.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

? How so

Chuck Schuldiner used one and his tone was great.

I don't think it is, I think it's a bit mediocre TBH.

Michael Romeo uses one now as well. Listen to Paradise Lost to hear it in action.

Personally I love the sound other people have gotten from it. I'm having trouble from time to time with my DAX, but some days I love it.

And I think the X2N is actually hotter.
Then there's this band called Slice The Cake...

Bunch of faggots putting random riffs together and calling it "progressive" deathcore.
Stupid name.
Probably picked "for teh lulz"

From personal experience, I can say that the X2N is an extremely hot pickup, and quite possibly more so than the EMG81. I can get a better clean tone from an EMG than the X2N, as there basically is no clean tone from it unless you roll the volume down. Unfortunately, I really didn't care for that pickup. I found it to be too harsh sounding.

I get a great clean sound from the D Activator X. Of course, they designed it to have better cleans while retaining that high gain tone with the clarity of an active pickup. The cleans are really punchy though, and have some more upper-mid clang to them. I can drive my Blackface module a bit when I hit the strings harder too, but since I keep the gain on it low it's not very much.

I would assume the emg is hotter because of it being active having a higher output and all, but what do I know.

wow. 10 replies without a single answer. Okay I'll do it

I am 100% sure that x2n is hotter then EMG 81

The X2N is hotter but it's also shit. It's muddy and harsh and has very little body to its midrange.
The EMG is a better pickup in every respect and you really won't need to go much higher output than that.
If you do then CorduroyEW's Rock Monkey neodymium pickups are probably hotter than most but they should still be quite nicely toned.
