I've never used TABIT, but i've got Tuxguitar.

I'm not sure about simplicity or anything, but it's just like the Guitar Pro demo i downloaded a while back.
It opens just about every tab software's files out there. (power tab, guitar pro, and probably some others, if there are any)

I recommend it. It's free, too.

And remember, sometimes simplicity can be a bad thing.

It depends. I mostly use text because I want to leave part of it up to interpretation, y'know, not sound exactly the same. But if the note groupings or rhythm or speed or something confuses me then I use powertab or GP.

pretty sure tuxguitar plays powertabs too, so you've got a bit of redundency going on there.

Tuxguitar is your friend, free and legal, plays GP and powertab, google it.

TuxGuitar, open-source software ftw!

Guitar Pro occupies too much space in my hard drive imo.
