But can someone recommend me an amp and new bass please? I've just seen this video on youtube: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=BtsFvQFL0GU

And love the way this guy can just stroke the strings to get a nice sound out of em, I really need to put effort into my crappy starter bass and amp just to get a sound, which half the time sounds naff

I don't quite have the funds for a stingray / sterling, but totaling up to perhaps £500 or so?

Thanks all

Instead of playing so hard, just turn your input gain up a bit more.

All I have on my bass is a volume knob and what seems to be a treble sort of knob as well

EDIT: How do these look?

Input gain on your amp. If you play delicately, you can just boost the signal at the amp instead.

The best way to get close to the tone would be to save up and get a similar amp. Most of your tone is from your amp.

I live in Guernsey so choice is virtually non-existant for guitars, let alone basses

The Peavy is good. I would also recomend that you go look at something like a Squier Jazz bass or a used Fender.

I would also advise that you stay away from the Rumble 100. It's pretty good but, it's too quiet and the tone is kinda bland.

Right, had a good look around and have just found semi acoustic basses. They look sweet! Are they worth the buy? I have narrowed it down to one of these two:

they are poorly built. if you want a semiacoustic, go for Ibanez. but play one first.

I wouldn't call what we have here on the Bass Forum a mentality. It's more like the sharing part of an AA meeting.
