There's been a trend lately of people actually discussing good pop punk and emo bands in PP&E, so what do you say I toss this one into the mix?

Let's show some love for J Church, one of the most awesome and most prolific pop punk bands ever. They formed in San Francisco in 1992 and released something like four million LPs and two thousand greatest hits collections before Lance Hahn (lead guitar, singer, creative genius) tragically died in October 2007 of complications from kidney dialysis.

As the first anniversary of Lance's death draws near, I think it's appropriate to introduce this band to a new generation of pop punk fans.

For fans of Jawbreaker, blink-182, Dead Milkmen, the Mr. T Experience, Samiam, Discount, Green Day... I think you get it.

MySpace

If anyone can find the Nothing Nice to Say strip where they try to write a song like J Church, please post.

EDIT:

I got an ep off of Tom, which is the only thing I've heard by them. I like it, but I'm betting that it's not their best work either.

I only have Society Is A Carnivorous Flower, I really like it. What's a good album to get after that?

The only one I have is One Mississippi. It's very good.

To know which album is the best, you'd have to ask someone who's heard all of them. Which is rare because they had literally dozens of releases, possibly around a hundred, and only a small portion were officially released.

As far as I know, there was no real peak of their career anyway. I hear they were just endlessly awesome from start to finish.

So this thread died extremely quickly, and the only replies were from Punk & Ska forum regulars, except Paris_In_Flames ( ). PP&E fails SO hard.

I think I'm starting to support the idea of rearranging the forums into:

Punk, Ska, and Pop Punk
Hardcore & Emo (or merge emo with Alternative & Indie)
Pop Rock

I think they're fine the way they are, but if I was to regroup them I'd do this:

Punk, Ska, and Pop Punk
Pop Rock
Metalcore and Deathcore(large enough to warrant own forum, takes away shitty bands from hardcore)
Hardcore, emocore, and screamo
Alt and Indie('90s emo stuff goes here)

Also I got Camels, Spilled Corona and the Sound of Mariachi Bands, loving it so far.

I support the merge of Emo & Hardcore (to disassociate the whole pop punk thing from emo), but the other ones are too far away.

On topic, I quite enjoy J Church, but I'm not the biggest fan out there. Quite fun to listen to, though.

I'll check these guys out.

and if things were my way, the forums would look similar to this:

Bands that Its_Rock77 Enjoys
Bands that Its_Rock77 Does Not Enjoy

keeps everything nice and sorted. any takers?

I like what I've heard but I'm having trouble NOT finding albums to DL.

I would certainly NOT appreciate any help...

Ask Tom if he still has the links to two of their albums.

Fun fact:

Adam Pfahler from Jawbreaker played drums for J Church on and off around 1992-1993 and 1998-2002, and appears on the album One Mississippi.

Oh, and Blake Schwarzenbach sang backup vocals on the songs "Kathi" and "Favorite Phrase."

I love band trivia a little too much.

Why does PP&E hate good music? Does 90% of this forum just want to talk exclusively about blink-182 and Green Day?
