I've found my 5150 to be great for hard rock and stuff, but not the best amp for all-around playing. i mean, I honestly think my friend's Marshall MG250 w/ multi effects has better tone than with my hellraiser in my 5150 so...

should i not even get the amp head i was thinking about purchasing? i wanted to sell my rig for a totally diff. amp and totally diff. guitar. But am i looking at it wrong?

would a multi-effects processor possibly be what i need? maybe a POD XT or something of the sort?

it would def. save me money, and it would fill in the lack of effects my 5150 distributes

i mean, i can get a nice pod for like $175-200 off my local CL

You need to crank the 5150...ya feelin me? It's a 120 watt tube amp!

Also, have you checked the tubes? A good amp for rock is probably a Orange or a Peavey Classic 30!
Guitars:
-Schecter C-7 Hellraiser
-Ibanez MTM2
Amplifiers and Cabinets:
-Peavey StudioPro
-Randall RH50T Head
-Behringer 4x12 cab
Pedals:

-Boss SD-1
-MXR 10 Band Equalizer

Wait...so what exactly are you looking for in a new amp/guitar, in terms of genre ,size etc.
And also, honestly what effects do you need?
Also
WTF!? You have a 5150....and want a POD/MG

Exactly my thought's BIG WTF!

Honestly.....5150 and a Hellraiser. That's something gigging and tour band's guitarist can use! It's no cheapo knockoff amp or guitar you got.

No stop. Do not help this kid. He has a premium tube amp thats renowned for its sound and he's lusting after one of the worst solid state amps ever made.

If you want a really sweet amp, sell your 5150 and get a line6 spidervalve 212.

Dude, maybe you need to work on your playing and your tehnique, that can make a big difference,. also your treble mids and bass ettings etc?

why dont you just keep the 5150, if it's a 120watt tube amp i'd be holding onto it, just incase i gig in the future.

What do you not like about your tone?

if you cant seem to get aggressive distortion and attack out of your current amp/ head why dont you buy a distortion pedal or you could buy a multi effects pedal, but im not sure if it'd be as good as a dedicated pedal etc.

quit spamming this on everyone's thread, they're overpriced and not that great.

Sounds like you need to mess with the EQ more, and what volume are you playing at? if you're playing at 1 or 2 it's gonna sound like poo.

no, i dont want an MG, i was just making a statement to get you to visualize how much i think my tone sucks.

i find a lot of it to be the major hissing and noise the 5150 is known for.

im saying, instead of spending a leg and arm on the mesa or marshall head i wanted, would it be wiser to get a multi effects pedal?

ok, if i want delay, phaser, crunchy overdrive, or wahtever else; my 5150 combo cant deliver, and i dotn want to spend $100+ PER pedal, when i can get a nice $4-500 multi pedal for $200 that does all that

....get a noise suppressor, that's all you need

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/ISP-Technologies-Decimator-Noise-Reduction-Pedal?sku=150368

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Boss-NS2-Noise-Suppressor-Pedal?sku=151331

and effects like that are fun for awhile, the novelty wears off fast though and you'll get sick of them. If you really wanna play around with effects, the pod would be fine, but once you start to gig, you'll find it to be useless.

i play at like 2 in my bedroom yes, but im talking about gigging.

me friend is lead guitar and uses his solid state MG250 w/ a pod xt live. he uses an epi lp custom that i sold to him.

i use a killer guitar w/ emgs and a tube amp & his notes and such still seem to be more "clear" and distinguished than mine.

mine sound so muffled and noisy all the time.

im using a korg pandora PX5D at the moment, maybe you could try one those out, i dont think many people have used them. but google it and check out some of the demos and/ or youtube videos.

it has alot of effects, amp head and cab modelling, you can edit your own set-up I.e.

amp type (gain, trebble, mids, bass, volume etc etc)
cab type (1x12 classic, 1x8 classic etc etc)
effects: OD, chorus, flanger, reverb, delay etc etc there are lots of sounds to be had out of it.

also you can just link it upto your PC with a USB cable and record straight into an audip app, such as livelite (which you get with it), pro tools or even audicity.

also it has loads of other features too

bad idea. decide on the effects you want and buy them one by one. you will be much happier in the long run. if you get a multi-fx you'll end up selling it later and buying seperate pedals.

if the noise is bothering you that much get a decimator!

I'm not spamming, it's honestly the best amp I've ever played. I've never seriously messed around with the 2k and up amps, but the spidervalve has everything anyone needs, you just need to learn how to use it correctly. the manual is like 200 pages of legit information.

For the money there are way better amps, if I had that much money to spend I'd get a lonestar or somesuch.

Jack of all trades sort of thing. I'd rather have a few pedals that do just what I want and sound really good, then a ton of effects I WON'T use that sound pretty good. Look used for effects. I know you were starting to play pop punk stuff. Maybe like a Traynor YCV, Peavey classic 30, or better yet a Mesa f-30. That can still do the metalcore stuff.
F-30 w/ a few effects would be a great rig. I'd keep the guitar though

Yeah what Felix said, I'd love to own a Hellraiser, why would you sell it? (No I dont want to buy it from you, I have no $$$)

haha, i love it too, its just, idk. it didnt seem to deliver like i thought it would. maybe its just my amp.

but les pauls have a different voicing than strat styled guitars ala the Hellraiser, and im looking for different voicing.

but maybe effects or a new amp will do it justice.

yes, BIG CONTRADICTORY being that i own a 5150...my rig is stereotypical of good metal tone, but hey, 5150's, or ALL amps for that matter just dont suit everyone

You can't get crunchy OD from a 5150? That makes me think it's re-tube and bias check time. Also the noise suppressor is a good idea as rec'd above. But try some mid-range modeling amps and see what you think in the meantime. You may simply prefer hybrid with effects as opposed to a tube.
I was going to say get your ears re-biased but I didn't want to come across as a complete ars.

Oh, that's a pretty nice deal. How long does it usually take? I know they actually ave to make the amp. As for recording equip, a nice usb mic will do you fine. 100 bucks maybe. Or you could get a 4 track and a good mic. Whatever works
