No. There's a reason why there are bass amps and guitar amps. Although, guitars can be played through bass amps, if that's what you want.

Yes, it can be played through it, but as most other people here have said you shouldn't as there is risk of breaking the speakers due to the lower frequency's

Correct, the only difference with Marshalls, Hiwatt, Orange etc when used for bass was the speakers that were fitted.
The Fender Dual Showman offered the option in its 2x15 cab of Bass or Guitar speakers.

Yes you can play the bass through the amp Head, But get him a Bass cab if you must play it through the marshall head

and do not let the bass come out of its speakers. that will damage them, and make them sound like ass. and stop working

Running a guitar head for a bass is fine.

Running a guitar cab for a bass is not fine.

In almost all cases, guitar speakers dont have enough xmax to recreate the lower frequences so they are going to tear the surround or take some motor damage.

You've already been told several times it's not the amp it's the speakers.

you'll find we disagree with TB on a lot of issues, this being one of them.

the fact is guitar speakers are not designed to vibrate with enough force to push out the low frequencies. so when you try to force those lows out you overwork the speakers thus breaking it.

I don't know how many times I'm going to have to tell this story...

When I first started playing bass I had a nice and shiny american fender jazz bass ('95 if anyones interested). I didn't have any money to buy an amp afterwards so I didn't and just used my sister's little wimpy guitar amp (with wimpy guitar speakers). Needless to say, after a week of playing turned up to 11 the amp exploded. no joke. It literally blew to pieces. Now this could be because I am an amazing bassist and I exploded the amp with my crazy bass skillz. Or because you should never play a bass through a guitar amp with guitar speakers. I pretend it's the first of those two.

I'm also interested in knowing more about this. What if you just have the amp on, say, half volume or so? That would leave lots of room wouldn't it, and it would work fine?

And what about the EQ? If I ran a bass through my guitar amp, would it be best to crank the bass and turn off mid and treble?

Tuberculosis or Talk Bass. In many eyes they are synonymous.

To the TS, just don't, its a very bad idea.
