So I own a marshall avt100, which as many of you may know it has a grand total of 1 tube in the preamp. I got the amp for very cheap second hand and its afew years old now and im looking at replacing that single tube.

The question is, can I simply pull that tube out and stick a new one in, without having to rebias or balance the amp, as its only one preamp tube. Also does it have to be the exact same tube that replaces it.
Im all outa signature

preamp tubes are cathode biasing (they bias themselves), so you're fine.

you could replace the 12ax7 with an au, at, ay, or whatever...but it probably wont sound good at all.

depends on the function of the tube in the preamp and the sound he is going for. for example, i'm not familiar with many hybrids, but if it's a PI, a 12AT7 would be your best bet, usually.
