Ok so I searched and I did not find anything on the bar

Now I have a nice keyboard sitting around my house and I want to teach myself how to play piano/synth.
MY questions are:

Is it even realistic to teach yourself piano?

and if so how should I go about doing this?
#2
yes, there are videos on youtube about that. go look for them.

Piano is very similar to the guitar.

yes piano is not that hard to learn on your own. really helps out with understanding your musical theory. just watching your fingering and you should be ok.
#9
the only thing i can say is this:

piano/keyboard players have to realize that they can NEVER headbang.

Quite similar.
Because I know how to play guitar, I converted the stuff I knew on guitar to piano. It worked for me. I'm a fairly talented piano player now too
#11
I'm teaching myself the piano right now. basically just figure out what C is and then go from there, it takes a while but it works
#12
I'm learning it now, by myself. I basically look up the chords online, then I just fool around until I find stuff that sounds good.

If you know a decent amount of music theory, then you could probably manage.

I am teaching myself. Granted, I am progressing very slowly because I rarely play, but it's possible.

If you have grasp around how to build up scales and make chords, it shouldn't be too hard, just practice your fingering

Well, all instruments share the same theory (except maybe sitar), which is probably what you converted. There's the same interval between the tones on the two instruments, but that's pretty much it for the similarities

I've been teaching myself keyboard using youtube. I search for a song I like with piano, and there are usually tutorials showing you how to play.
I just find it hard to use both hands, but I'm sure I will prevail over time.

Analog synth (= best) : tune the oscillators, drift out of tune like sh*t(depends on the synth)

and its a MUCH MORE demanding job to tune a piano.

ok i still have no idea how to start teaching myself.
any songs or whatnot. or maybe websites with advice

Do you know the notes on the piano?

- No : Then start from there.

- Yes : The play the C major scale on two octaves with both your hands in sync. That's one of the toughest things to do in piano, both your hands have to work in sync producing two melodies at the same time. Start slowly, you should find more exercises on the net.

Oh, and

- Learn music theory.

- Learn to read music.

Hope I helped.

Yeah, that's called D minor.

If you understand basic music theory, and have a decent bit of dexterity with your hands, piano can be learned fairly easily. You will not be Liberace overnight, though. It'll take time.

Indian music theory is actually quite similar(at least on some levels) to western music theory. Only the scales and their usage differ. And the way the harmony works. It's actually quite interesting. I'd advice anyone to check out Indian classical theory and music.

Then find some sheet music and get to work. I'd suggest Fur Elise, simple piece and gets the fingers going.
