Leading experts have said that though Bulbasaur was the first discovered, the prehistoric Pokémon were carbon-dated to have existed before Bulbasaur. Is this true, or is it all a lie planted by corporate bigshots trying to spark controversy in the good nation of Kanto?

Discuss.

Clearly, Bulbasaur has always been- and will always be- the 1st pokemon.

realistically (such irony) bulbasaur is the first pokemon, but technically aerodactyl and the other fossil pokemon are the first. but then again, bulbasaur is LITERALLY the first pokemon (him being no. 1)

but **** technicalities.
#19
aerodactyls DNA was extracted from fossils, after Bulbasaur became a common pokemon.

As I clearly stated in the thread that started this topic, Bulbasaur has existed since the time of the prehistoric pokémon, he's simply the only one that was bad ass enough to survive without going extinct. That makes him #1 both historically and numerically.

Trick question.
Reason:

Bulbasaur is the first pokemon ON THE POKEDEX
this doesn't mean it is the first pokemon ever

bulbasaur may have been the first pokemon discovered
or the first pokemon on the list
but he is by no means the first pokemon ever.
arceus created the world that bulbasaur lives in

I thought it was PokeJoseph Smith, Jr. who found the Master Plates, and then published the Book of Pokemormon. But maybe I'm wrong.

nope and it wasnt pokeallah either INFIDELASAUR lol
#37
well he may have been discovered first, but i doubt he was the firsted. Bulbasaur is too complex an organism to have been the first. It shows high levels of symbiotic behaviour (the plant on it's back), it's more likely some fish type, or insect type came much sooner.
#38
first discovered maybe, but that doesn't mean Bulbasaur is the first to have existed.

in fact that seems unlikely.

what about Kabuto or Omanyte?

Wrong.

Anyway, I'm going to go with Bulba, just because I never liked Aerodactyl.

more importantly, if we're talking evolutionary lifetime scales here, how in the hell did Magikarp survive this long unless they are constantly protected by herds of Gyrados?
