i have decided to build my own pedal as the onlyhalf decent pedals in my price range is the boss mt-2 or so i have been told.

i have the choice of
big muff pi clone
proco rat clone
808 tube screamer clone
or a mxr distortion +

i want a classic rock blues distortion that could maybe reach a metallica early 80's metal tone.

which of these 3 would be best.

Gear:
Gibson Les Paul Studio
Custom Built Acoustic
Epiphone Valve Special
Marshall Guv'nor GV2
tanglewood 1000 pu resonator
washborn acoustic

Probably the rat. The Tubescreamer is an overdrive not distortion, so you could use it to push your amp harder, but i dont think a Valve special could reach metallica levels of gain, even with a boost.

dist + sounds rather thin to me, and the muff is sort of a fuzz. i agree with the rat. how good are these BYOC pedals?
Ibanez RG321MH (Air Classic/Tone Zone)
Fernandes Telecaster (Twang King/stock bridge pickup)
Blackstar HT-20 (Scumback 55 speaker/ Tung Sol tubes)
TC Electronic Nova Repeater
Lava Cables Clear Connect, Soar and Mini ELC

I'd build a rat. But I recommend building a crunch box clone.

Depends on how they are built.

I have a rebote delay and it's great.. I'm trying to build a phase/flanger/tremolo in 1 pedal. 3 switches in one enclosure. its gona be a phase90 clone, fl301 clone and a pulsar clone

sure, but it doesn't change the tone or feel of the 808. It's not a distortion pedal, you can have all the gain in the world on it yet it will still give you that spongy, soft attack and loose bass. That is what makes it the 808. You're better off just buying a different pedal. There are plenty of ODs that have more gain than the 808 and sound better than the 808.
