My buddy currently plays a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe that belongs to the bassist in his bands dad. The bassists dad wants him to get his own amp, which amp would give him a similar sound to the HRD without having to shell out the money for one. He is looking a the crate v33 and crate v50, needs to be under $300 for sure, needs to be under $300 and be able to be as loud as or close to as loud as the HRD.

Well brother, since you live in the US you have some decent options in that price range. The Crates are about as good as you will get for your money if you buy new. IMO anyway. The V50 with a decent speaker would still be under $300 and get pretty close to the HRD.
But... Start looking used and you can usually do better. What major city does your friend live near? Ever check craigslist?
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, then it hit me.

I check craigslist all the time, options are pretty limited in his price range, I live in St. Paul mn and he lives in Woodbury. I let him know about the v50 and v33, I was pretty sure the v50 was close to the HRD. Are there any other amps to keep an eye out for that will be similar?

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/msg/884424341.html Classic 30 tweed, $275.
http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/msg/878340198.html Classic 30 black, $300
http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/msg/885533168.html Badass old crate, $375.
http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/msg/879229995.html Here's the Crate V50 for $175, that tells you something.

Yea the Classic 30 would be a good replacement, cleans are close to the fender and the gain channel pwns the fender. Good luck!

How would the Classic 30 stack up in terms of volume?

30 watts tube is quite a bit of power, and I'm fairly certain it will stack up well to the HRD.

Classic 30 would be a great choice.

Classic 30 will break up earlier than the HRD and also be slightly brighter i would of thought.

But for 275 bucks off craigslist, fukken go for it.

Thanks for the help, I will talk to my friend, I am not sure if he would shell out the extra for the classic 30 or not cause he needs a new guitar too.
